A few weeks ago I went to Portland for a conference. I got to spend some time wandering around downtown, and was amazed at the fodder for my camera. Here are some of my favorites:
I loved this sign.
I’ve never seen an orange fire hydrant!
Falling water, even in pictures, always seems peaceful…
Portland rocks.

I went to the big citay a couple of days last week for a conference for advocates and lawyers for victims of crime. The first morning, I was in the display.info room with another gentleman. I noticed he had a very very nice dSLR (Nikon). I’d seen him taking pictures of the conference, and I sure wanted a closer look at that camera! :) So I asked if he was the official photographer. He said no, but it was a big hobby of his. I admired his camera, and told him I was an amateur* and some of what I was struggling to learn. We talked for about an hour–and I learned a TON. I had to rush back to my room and write it all down. He even went and got me some articles and info he found helpful. And he gave me some tips on how I can use photography at my work!
Later, I realized that this gentleman was the KEYNOTE speaker for the conference!!! And I asked him if he was the photographer… Good thing I didn’t know in advance, or there is no way I would have approached him.
I took literally 600 pictures over those two days–it was awesome. Mom and Grandmom come this week, but I shall get some more pics up soon!

The Keynote Speaker? Nancy Tanner? That’s my grandmom. She’s coming here to speak about finding the Ivorybilled Woodpecker with my Granddad, James T Tanner. I’m beyond excited.
p.s. Can you tell who I’m named after? ![]()

My mom, who still hasn’t mastered recording on the VCR, is thinking about getting an iphone. WHAT? I thought we had a deal, mom. When I hit about 15 I got to be the more technologically advanced one! (Of course, the computer geek of a brother surpassed me, but still!) I was supposed to be teaching you about all this stuff mom!
At the very least, will you come to visit soon, so that I can play and dream?
Edited to add: I forgot to mention that my mom has a prius and a newer OS on her Mac than I do. How is it that my mom is more hip than me? ![]()
